Lincolns for the Library

penny

This special collection supplements our R.I.F. book program.

During the month of February, we collect pennies in honor of Abraham Lincoln. The B-W Foundation supplements the money collected so we can buy two books for each 3rd, 4th and 5th grader to take home and keep as a gift. The R.I.F. program provides free books for our Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students, so this program allows us to give books to all of our students. A portion of the money collected is donated to charity.

Before the coins are counted, our classes are invited to work in groups to design and speed-assemble "penny-art" in the library. It's a fun exercise in creative team-effort.
