Teddies ready to travel! These donations to the 2006 collection drive were delivered to Rady Children's Hospital.
Each holiday season, Law Enforcement agencies throughout San Diego Country collect teddy bears for children ill in local hospitals.
Teddy bears are given to children staying at the hospital through the holidays. During the rest of the year, nurses and doctors at Children's give remaining bears to new patients to comfort them during their hospital visits.
Benchley-Weinberger kindergarten classes began participating in the Teddy Bear Drive in 2000. The whole school joined in the program in 2001. With donations of 500 to 600 bears each year, the Benchley-Weinberger community has contributed over 2,000 teddy bears.
Deputies from local law enforcement agencies visit BW during a special assembly and collect the bears. Thousands of teddy bears, collected county-wide, are delivered by police motorcade to Children's Hospital every holiday season.
The library partners with the BW-PTA in collecting the teddy bears. Learn more about this community project at the San Diego County Deputy Sheriff's Foundation.
